The Old Posting House is a 400 year old coaching inn just outside Cockermouth on the edge of the Lake District National Park. It is an attractive and ideal location for discovering the Northern lakes, with Loweswater, Crummock, Buttermere, Ennerdale and Derwentwater all on our doorstep.

This traditional inn retains many period features including beamed ceilings and the original post boxes protected by English Heritage.

We warmly welcome you to The Old Posting House, our dog friendly pub , you will also discover a buzzing and sociable atmosphere, the perfect pint and a great meal.

Fantastic dinning experience What an amazing place. The food was simply amazing. Good sized portions, tasty and hot. I will be certainly be returning as I'm lucky to live close to this gem of a place.

HIDDEN GEM From the moment we got there to the moment we left this place is amazing, hosts where amazing, food is excellent, English country inn style food, what more can you say about that, get booked in and enjoy a staple of English countryside at a proper country inn.

Worth a visit. Had a lovely meal served by a very lovely and welcoming lady. Food was well presented and a nice portion size. Will definitely return again.

A gem of a place, excellent room and food, would thoroughly recommend. Booked a stay for two couples (one with a dog). Communication prior to arrival was great. Upon arrival we were welcomed and shown to our beautifully appointed room. The room and ensuite was exceptionally clean, with a comfortable bed and excellent shower. Our evening meals were lovely (no complaints) and despite staying in the bar long after other customers had left, we were not rushed out! The breakfast was lovely, very tasty with quality ingredients. Stayed two nights and we ate in the bar both nights with no complaints and nothing seemed to be too much trouble for the hosts. Would thoroughly recommend a stay at the Old Posting House as a base for exploring the Lakes.

Old Posting House evening meal At the end of our stay in the western Lake District we stopped at this lovely old inn for an evening meal. The food was absolutely delicious and the staff friendly and welcoming.

Sunday evening meal. Partner and I went for Sunday evening meal. Food was delicious, well cooked and hot. Partner was happy to see Loweswater Gold on sale 😍. The owners were very friendly, the pub is spotless. Parking great. Definitely be back.

Bank Holiday Stay Just returned from 2 nights stay and must say what a great experience. From check in to check out the service , quality of food and cleanliness were fantastic. I would throughly recommend a stay or a meal at best at the Old Posting House
