The Old Posting House is a 400 year old coaching inn just outside Cockermouth on the edge of the Lake District National Park, it is an attractive and ideal location for discovering the Lakes.

This traditional inn retains many period features including beamed ceilings and the original post boxes protected by English Heritage.

We warmly welcome you to The Old Posting House, our dog friendly pub , you will also discover a buzzing and sociable atmosphere, the perfect pint and a great meal.

A Little Gem Based ourselves here for a weekend in the Lakes. An excellent choice. A very comfortable and appointed room, spotlessly clean. Our hosts, Nichola and Terry were so friendly and accommodating, how they both managed to to look after all their customers in such an understated and very efficient manner was a joy to behold. The food was just first class, Chef Malcom produced the most tastiest of fayre and his Death By Chocolate Mousse was exquisite.

Comfortable friendly hotel perfect as a base to explore northern Lakeland. Friendly comfortable hotel situated close to Cockermouth and a good starting point to explore Northern Lakeland. The food is excellent and the room we stayed in was very clean and very comfortable. Clean towels provided daily along with tea,coffee and delicious biscuits.Highly recommended.

A comfortable place to stay We spent 3 nights here and used it as a base to explore the Lake District and the coast. The landlord and landlady were very pleasant and welcoming. We had breakfasts and evening meals and all were excellent. The room was comfortable and very clean. All in all, it was an ideal place for us to stay and we wouldn’t hesitate to book again if we returned to the area. Recommended!

Definitely one to recommend The staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Answering all of our questions and delivering both our drinks and our food in a timely manner.The choice of food on the menu was varied and we certainly had trouble choosing as there were so many delicious sounding dishes.Let’s just say that the food did not disappoint. Each course was excellent, and the portion size was definitely on the large side, no complaints with that.Sadly we are only in the area for a week, otherwise this restaurant would be our go to restaurant on a regular occasion.We have one night of our holiday left , my vote is to return here , fingers crossed.

Excellent stay! Highly recommend We booked to stay here very last minute and could not have had a better time! Lovely, welcoming staff, spotlessly clean and up to date rooms, great food and drink for both breakfast and dinner and plenty of on site parking. Perfectly situated to explore nearby Cockermouth (approx 10min drive), Buttermere and Crummock Water (approx 30min drive) and the Cumbrian coastline. We loved every minute of our stay and would highly recommend!

Homecooking with an eye on quality Genuinely fresh food, cooked with an eye on quality. We enjoyed Sunday lunch, and the service and food were excellent. Reasonably priced too, so good value for money. We'll definitely go again - recommended.
